The “Cornaro”, as a school, is working in Jesolo since 1964, that is almost half a century. It was born as a branch of the Vocational Business School of Venice; it has become independent since 1979/80 and it has turned into School for Tourism and Hotel Management&Catering since 1980/81. The School has been proposing afternoon and evening classes for adult people since 1998. Its educational offer is characterized by a large number of courses: Hotel, Restaurant, Administration and Tourism. It is the only High School in Jesolo and it trains qualified staff at different levels for Tourism and Hotel Management fields, which are among the major revenues of the local, regional and national economy as well.

The “Cornaro” stands out in the school survey as one of the most prestigious and active school, able to carry out a driving role for proposals in the whole sector. Its educational offer is rich and diversified, divided into several courses of studies and options. The school gives young people who wish to undertake a career in the Hotel, Restaurant or Tourism fields, the real chance of chosing from the three-year course to get the vocational qualification to the post-graduate courses. Thanks to its wise strategy, the school has developed a crowded network of contacts allowing to keep up a good relationship at different levels.

The “Cornaro” is one of the charter members of the Schools of Hotel Management & Catering Association in Veneto and of the Re.Na.I.A (Schools of Hotel Management & Catering National Network) and its present headmaster, Mr. Ilario Ierace, is the chairman of both of them. As a AEHT member, the Association of European Hotel & Tourism Schools, it was awarded the 20th AEHT Yearly Conference, held in Jesolo Lido (Venice) from 16th to 21st October 2007.

The school has been able to take positions in the international cooperation field, inside specific projects and partnership. Within the cooperation project Italy-China “Il Milione”, the ”Cornaro” keeps close relations with Jiangsu School for Tourism to exchange students and professional experiences. It has also exchanged yearly programs and training periods with the State High School of Business and Restaurant Sciences in Szombathely (Hungary) which is twin school. More recently, it has been involved in the reorganization of the School of Hotel Management & Catering of El Fajoum, Egypt, at Italian Ministry of Welfare's invitation and in cooperation with the Egyptian Government and the OIM (World Immigration Organization). The “Cornaro”, at european level, is also promoting the Leonardo pilot project “Orsa Minore” and is partner of Leonardo project “Mobilità”.

All these goals helped to increase the reputation of the school not only in Italy but also abroad. As to that, the “Cornaro” has been identified as the leader of the Educational Pole I.F.T.S.,”the new sea resorts jobs” for Business, Tourism and Transport fields, awarded at regional level. The School, in a ten year period, has been able to invest in organizing brand new network and method of well-known and esteemed post-graduation High Training. This permitted to design, within an integrated view, new professional figures able to increase the value of the Venetian coast, its hinterland, its art cities, its cultural and wine and food routes, with positive outcome even across the domestic borders. Such activity has become a tangible reality by carrying out several routes IFTS. It is worth pointing out the course, held some years ago, for “Restaurant Manager” and the one, just completed, for “Marketing and Sales Manager for Quality Regional Products”.

The School is leader of the Tourism Educational District (Venice-Belluno) as well. It has succeeded in exploiting the synergies coming from an improved partnership. It has shared infrastructures, educational instruments and competences in order to plan and carry out four educational levels, among which another IFTS course about marketing (Expert in marketing and new technologies for hotels and travel agencies) has just been completed.

These are new tools meeting the needs of high professional competence required by the tourism enterprises making training a driving force for the development of the local tourism economy.

Because of its well-connected relationship and its positive ten year experience in the High Technical Training, the “Cornaro” was appointed leader by the Regione Veneto, D.G.R. no. 1802 dtd. 13/07/2010, of the new Istituto Tecnico Superiore per il Turismo I.T.S. (the High Specialized School concerning New Technologies for Cultural Activities and Heritage – Tourism). The “Cornaro” has set up a special Foundation to which it grants prominent previous experiences and technical and professional skills, which are thus shared with different partners and potential users. A guarantee for the I.T.S. which has been specifically created to train high skilled staff in the Hospitality Management field, able to carry out high performances. They will be able to work either at high standard hotels and restaurants, or international resorts and campsites, spas, sport centres and theme-based parks. The I.T.S. of Jesolo, the only one in Veneto for the Tourism, is a shared Foundation, consisting in 10 charter members (Università Ca' Foscari Venezia, Provincia Venezia, Comune di Jesolo, Camera di Commercio I.A.A. di Venezia, Federalberghi Veneto, and so on). More than thirty members share the Foundation, among them schools, research centres, entrepreneurial associations, schools, bilateral authorities, public and private companies of this sector.

The “Cornaro” has become known as one of the schools for Higher Education in Italy and Europe thanks to its results and the efforts of those who helped it growing up. Some years ago, the “Cornaro” was awarded the quality prize by the Regione Veneto, after a rigorous judgement of its structure, educational offer and improvement procedures in progress. This award enhances the sense of belonging for those who work or study there and it is reason to feel proud and satisfied.

In addition to these awards, though relevant, our school, on the basis of the figures of the last years, is real competitive both for its modern and practical structure, and for the services offered to students and the quality of its teaching activities. Students take pleasure in attending courses at the “Cornaro” because of its new building (inaugurated in 2003 after a longtime waiting). It is provided with all the equipment needed for modern teaching activities, from restaurant, computer, commodities laboratories, to reception, library and reading room. Last but not least, our sports hall, which is the largest among the italian schools as far as equipment, size and quality are concerned.

However, the student is always the focus at “Cornaro”. Both when we have to appreciate and improve the best students, and when we have to assist those showing problems and needing for help. These are primary elements that identify our students' human and professional education and which turn into well-deserved success as well at school as in life.
